BIND 9

Chris hinted to me some time ago a feature in BIND 9 which I wasn’t aware of: views. They’re an easy way to present different networks with different zones.

For example, if you want to use the same DNS server for name resolution on your internal network as well as for external clients because they share certain names/IP addresses, but do not want to expose the internal-only addresses to the external network, that’s where views come into play.

This knowledge would have saved me a lot of trouble with fiddling around with hosts files and maintaining them a couple of years ago. That is why I basically ditched my DMZ and moved the servers to the external net not so long ago. Anyway, my DMZ is back and all I can say is: views are nice, very niiice!

Try again, looks better now for abstrakt.ch (ignore the "Stealth server" errors). I still have to go through all the other domains... low prio though.
